All things in the world look like leaves floating in the running water. Turning around to look at them, you find them only in your dreams.
From Li Yu (Five Dynasties)
Wind and Rain Last Night-to the Tune of Wu Ye Ti
Li Yu was the last monarch of the Southern Tang Dynasty. His poems often express a sentimental understanding of the sorrow over life’s misery and volatility, and often involve some perception and observation of the tragic reality of life in the universe. Things in the world are like flowing water, and the glory of life in the past is like a dream that will never return.
