柔情似水，佳期如梦，忍顾鹊桥归路。

两情若是久长时，又岂在朝朝暮暮。

这是宋代词人秦观的一首咏七夕的节序词，借牛郎织女悲欢离合的神话故事，讴歌了真挚、细腻、纯洁、坚贞的爱情。上片写七夕牛郎织女相会，这里摘引的下片是写他们的离别。分别之时不去看那鹊桥路，只要两情至死不渝，又何必贪求终日厮守、朝欢暮乐呢？结尾二句，别出心裁，终成千古佳句。

Clouds Float like Works of Art-to the Tune of   Que Qiao Xian

This is from a poem to celebrate the Qixi Festival by Qin Guan, a poet of the Song Dynasty. It praises the sincere, delicate, pure and steadfast romance based on the myth of the Cowherd and Weaver Girl’s love story. The upper half of the poem is about the meeting of the Cowherd and the Weaver Girl on the bridge made by magpies over the Milky Way on Qixi Festival, and the ending half of the poem as quoted here is about their parting. When parting, don’t look at the Magpie Bridge Road. As long as the two’s love remains unswerving, why bother to stay together all day long? The last two sentences have become one of the most frequently quoted whenever it comes to lauding the eternity of love.
